The UT Southwestern campus community is invited to this year’s annual Black History Month Celebration. The hybrid event will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in D1.602 on South Campus.
The event will begin with a light lunch reception at 11:30 a.m., featuring dishes from Black owned restaurants including Chef Cassy's Kitchen and Beaux Boudin.
Beginning at noon, the ceremony will feature an intimate conversation between Shawna Nesbitt, M.D., M.S., Vice President and Chief Institutional Opportunity Officer and special guest Roland Parrish, M.B.A., CEO and owner of Parrish Restaurants, Ltd.
A successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, Mr. Parrish is the second largest African American franchisee of McDonald's, with more than 20 locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In 2024, he was selected as the 95th recipient of the Linz Award from Communities Foundation of Texas, one of the most prestigious civic honors presented to those whose humanitarian efforts have created lasting benefit to Dallas. He is also listed amongst Black Enterprise Magazine’s top 100 Black-owned business leaders in the country.
This celebration is hosted by the Office for Institutional Opportunity.
