Paul M. Palevsky, M.D., is Professor of Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Clinical and Translational Science in the Renal-Electrolyte Division at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine; Chief of the Kidney Medicine Section for the Veterans Affairs Pittsburgh Healthcare System; and Deputy National Executive Director for the Veteran’s Health Administration National Kidney Program. Dr. Palevsky completed his undergraduate and medical education at Northwestern University, followed by internship and residency training in internal medicine and fellowship training in nephrology at the University of Pennsylvania. He joined the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh in 1989, where he has remained since. As a clinical investigator whose research has focused on acute kidney injury (AKI) and critical care nephrology, Dr. Palevsky has published more than 300 original articles, reviews, and book chapters. He has held multiple editorial positions, served in leadership roles for the Renal Physicians Association, National Forum of ESRD Networks, and National Kidney Foundation, and is an elected member of the Association of American Physicians.
