About Michael McPhaul:

Dr. McPhaul holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a medical degree from UT Southwestern, where he also obtained his internal medicine residency training. He then completed a Helen Hay Whitney Research Fellowship in biochemistry at Stanford University under the guidance of Nobel laureate Paul Berg.

 

Dr. McPhaul joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1986, ultimately serving Endocrine Service Chief at Parkland Hospital, Director of the UT Southwestern Pituitary Disease Clinic, and Associate Dean for Medical Student Research.

 

An internationally recognized expert on androgen receptor biology and disorders of androgen action, Dr. McPhaul’s research has illuminated mechanisms underlying androgen insensitivity syndromes and prostate cancer progression. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and edited volumes, including The Crisis in Clinical Research and Clinical Research: From Protocol to Implementation. His work has been supported by major grants from the NIH, Doris Duke Charitable Trust, and industry partners.
