About Pouneh Fazeli:

Dr. Fazeli earned her undergraduate degree from Harvard University, her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and a MPH from the Harvard School of Public Health. 

As a clinical and translational researcher, Dr. Fazeli has a primary focus on understanding neuroendocrine adaptations to undernutrition and intermittent fasting. Her research has explored hormonal adaptations leading to profound bone loss in women with anorexia nervosa. She currently leads NIH-funded clinical studies investigating therapies for bone loss in women with anorexia nervosa, as well as the effects of intermittent fasting on metabolic and bone health. As Director of the Neuroendocrinology Unit, Dr. Fazeli established the inpatient neuroendocrine service and serves as the founding Medical Director of the internationally recognized Pituitary Center of Excellence at UPMC. In this role, she is also the site PI for multiple studies examining medical therapies for Cushing’s syndrome and acromegaly.
