CTSA's community outreach team (HealthStreet) is partnering with DKBMed to bring awareness to Type 2 Diabetes, specifically to Black and Hispanic men. Black and Hispanic adults, especially men, have fewer opportunities for conversations about preventive care. Because of these disparities, they also have a greater need for these conversations. This program will address disaprities in care by bringing the conversation to barbershops.  

Barbers often develop long and trusted realtionships with their clients, which makes them ideal partners for education and linkage to care. DKBMed previously developed an intiative called Fade Out HIV that connected and educated more than 200 barbers and 500 clinicians in Los Angeles, demonstrating the impact of this method.
