About Matthew Galsky:
Dr. Galsky earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine, completed an internal medicine residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School, and a medical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where he served as Chief Fellow.
A medical oncologist specializing in bladder, prostate, kidney, and testicular cancers, Dr. Galsky has built an internationally recognized research program focused on developing new treatments for genitourinary malignancies and advancing precision medicine approaches for patients with urothelial carcinoma. His work combines clinical trials, translational research, and biomarker discovery to better understand why some patients respond to therapy while others develop resistance.
His current research focuses on the biologic drivers of luminal urothelial cancer, particularly the PPARγ signaling pathway. His team and collaborators have helped establish PPARγ as a key regulator of luminal differentiation in normal urothelium and a potential therapeutic target in bladder cancer, where genomic studies have identified enrichment of PPARγ amplifications and RXRα mutations. Dr. Galsky has been involved in the clinical development of FX-909, a first-in-class PPARγ inverse agonist designed to suppress both ligand-induced and basal transcriptional activity. Early clinical findings presented at the 2026 ASCO Genitourinary Cancers Symposium demonstrated evidence of target engagement and preliminary antitumor activity in heavily pretreated patients with advanced urothelial carcinoma, supporting ongoing studies aimed at refining patient selection and expanding the role of PPARγ-targeted therapy in bladder cancer.
