 edicine\nUniversity of Michigan\n\n \n\nAbout Cem Akin:\n\nDr. Akin receiv
 ed his medical education at Instanbul University and completed internal me
 dicine residency training at the University of Louisville\, where he also 
 earned his doctorate in microbiology and immunology. He then obtained fell
 owship training in allergy and immunology at the National Institutes of He
 alth Clinical Center\, where he also worked as a staff physician and resea
 rcher.\n\nDr. Akin is recognized for his work on mast cell disorders inclu
 ding mastocytosis\, mast cell activation syndromes\, and anaphylaxis. As a
 n Associate Professor at Harvard Medical School\, he established the first
  multidisciplinary mastocytosis center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. 
 His clinical interests include tyrosine kinase inhibitor and other novel t
 reatments for indolent systemic mastocytosis\, tryptase and other biomarke
 rs for mast cell disease\, and pathophysiology and treatment of anaphylaxi
 s.\n\nDr. Akin is a co-author of the current WHO diagnostic criteria and c
 lassification of mastocytosis and has published over 20 scientific papers 
 and book chapters on mastocytosis. He was awarded the Researcher of the Ye
 ar and the ECNM Medal and Trophy in 2022 by European Competence Network on
  Mastocytosis. He served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Allergy
  and Clinical Immunology and Blood\, and is a past President of the Michig
 an Allergy Society.
