About David Balis:

Dr. Balis holds a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He earned his medical degree and completed internal medicine residency training at UT Southwestern.

He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1995.

At UT Southwestern, Dr. Balis is a Colleges Mentor, and Section Chief of General Internal Medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital. 

Dr. Balis' research interests include smoking cessation, the effects of smoking on the body, and cessation treatment. He has given numerous lectures nationally. His findings have also resulted in over a dozen peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and a trial for a potential new smartphone app designed to help smoking cessation.
