 hwestern.\n\nHe joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1995.\n\nAt UT South
 western\, Dr. Balis is a Colleges Mentor\, and Section Chief of General In
 ternal Medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital. \n\nDr. Balis' research int
 erests include smoking cessation\, the effects of smoking on the body\, an
 d cessation treatment. He has given numerous lectures nationally. His find
 ings have also resulted in over a dozen peer-reviewed publications\, book 
 chapters\, and a trial for a potential new smartphone app designed to help
  smoking cessation.\n\n.
