About Judith Regensteiner:
For more than three decades, Dr. Regensteiner’s federally funded research program has examined the cardiovascular consequences of type 2 diabetes, with a particular focus on women, who often experience more significant cardiovascular abnormalities than men with diabetes. Her clinical and translational research seeks to understand why exercise capacity is reduced in diabetes and to identify strategies to improve cardiovascular health through studies involving exercise physiology, vascular function, muscle biology, and advanced imaging techniques. She has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and has helped shape understanding of diabetes-related cardiovascular disease and peripheral arterial disease.
Dr. Regensteiner serves as principal investigator of the National Institutes of Health Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) program at Colorado and has led additional major research and career development initiatives, including the Doris Duke Foundation’s Fund to Retain Clinical Scientists. She is a member of the NIH Advisory Committee on Research on Women’s Health and has been a national leader in advancing research on sex differences and women’s health across disciplines.
As a mentor, educator, and scientific leader, Dr. Regensteiner has championed the development of the next generation of investigators while fostering interdisciplinary collaborations that advance the health of women throughout the lifespan.
