About Marlyn Mayo:

Originally from Syracuse, New York, Dr. Mayo holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She obtained her medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and completed internal medicine residency training at the University of California, Irvine. She then received advanced training through a fellowship program in gastroenterology and hepatology at UT Southwestern.

Dr. Mayo has devoted much of her career to the study and treatment of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), beginning as a fellow when she worked with the late Burton Combes, M.D., considered a guiding force in the field of hepatology, on what was then the largest clinical trial of patients with PBC. Her research focuses on autoimmune and cholestatic liver diseases, including PBC, primary sclerosing cholangitis, autoimmune hepatitis, and intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. In addition to leading clinical trials of emerging therapies, she has helped develop treatment guidelines that shape the care of patients with these conditions worldwide.

In addition to PBC, Dr Mayo also has interest and expertise in primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), autoimmune hepatitis (AIH), and intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP).
