DESCRIPTION:"Can we Truly be ZIP-LESS? Lessons from the Science and Practic
e of Empathy"\n\nMade Possible by the Arthur Grollman Visiting Professorsh
 ip in Experimental Medicine\n\n \n\nSpeaker:\n\nMichael Landzberg\, M.D.\n
Associate Professor of Medicine\nDirector\, Boston Adult Congenital Heart
and Pulmonary Hypertension Group\nHarvard Medical School\n\n \n\nAbout Mik
e Landzberg:\n\nDr. Landzberg received his medical degree from Harvard Med
ical School and completed internal medicine residency training at Columbia
-Presbyterian Medical Center. He then obtained advanced training through a
fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.\n
\nA nationally recognized leader in adult congenital heart disease\, Dr. L
andzberg has spent more than three decades shaping care for patients once
thought unlikely to reach adulthood. He played a central role in establish
ing the Boston Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) and Pulmonary Hyperte
nsion Program as a joint venture between Boston Children’s Hospital and
Brigham and Women’s Hospital and led the program for more than 20 years
as it grew into one of the busiest ACHD programs in the world. Over the co
urse of his career\, he has trained dozens of cardiologists who now direct
ACHD programs across the U.S. and internationally.\n\nAs patients with AC
HD began living longer\, Dr. Landzberg recognized that extending survival
alone was not enough. To address the emerging need for end‑of‑life pla
 nning\, serious‑illness conversations\, and symptom‑focused care\, he
completed a fellowship in palliative care medicine\, an uncommon step for
a senior cardiologist. He now integrates palliative principles into ACHD p
ractice\, advocating for care that aligns medical decision‑making with p
atients’ values and goals across the full course of life.
