About Niraj Sharma:
Dr. Sharma received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and completed his medical degree at George Washington University, where he also earned a master's degree in public health. He then completed residency training at the University of Miami.
His clinical expertise centers on providing comprehensive primary care across the lifespan, with particular emphasis on adolescents and young adults with childhood‑onset chronic conditions and on the transition from pediatric to adult care systems. His clinical work integrates preventive care, chronic disease management, and care coordination for patients whose medical, developmental, or psychosocial needs span traditionally separate pediatric and adult settings.
Dr. Sharma's research interests focus on health care transition, examining how systems, policies, and clinical practices can better support youths as they move into adult-oriented care, as well as on graduate medical education, quality improvement, and workforce training, including the development and evaluation of transition‑focused curricula, mentorship models for medicine‑pediatrics trainees, and the impact of insurance coverage, care coordination, and health system design on outcomes for young adults with chronic disease.
