About Stephanie Terauchi:

Stephanie Terauchi, M.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a member of the Palliative Medicine Section of the Division of General Internal Medicine. She serves as Medical Director of Palliative Care and specializes in providing comprehensive and holistic palliative care to patients and families facing serious illness. She is also an expert in palliative care program design.

Originally from Arkansas, Dr. Terauchi holds a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She earned her medical degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine in Little Rock, and then completed residency training in internal medicine at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2015.

Dr. Terauchi’s research interests include the impact of early palliative care on quality of life and survival. She has delivered scores of lectures and presentations and published numerous academic articles.

She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and a member of several professional organizations, including the Center to Advance Palliative Care and the Palliative Care Research Cooperative Group. She chairs UT Southwestern’s Multidisciplinary Pain Management and Opioid Stewardship Committee for Clements University Hospital and Hospital-Based Clinics.

Additionally, she is a member of numerous committees, including the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Palliative Care Advisory Group and UT Southwestern’s Medical Executive Committee.

In 2019, she received the LEAD Capstone Poster Award from UT Southwestern.

Outside of work, Dr. Terauchi enjoys traveling, attending symphony concerts, playing piano, and spending time with friends and family.
