Help us honor Dr. King’s legacy at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration on Wednesday, Jan. 21. 

The keynote address will be delivered by Clyde W. Yancy, M.D., M.Sc., Vice Dean for Health Equity, Magerstadt Professor and Chief of Cardiology, and Professor of Medicine and Medical Social Sciences at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.  

An elected member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Yancy’s career has spanned various advisory roles in government service, including leadership positions in the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and the National Institutes of Health. He also has served as President of the American Heart Association and is the current Deputy Editor of JAMA Cardiology. A UTSW alumni, Dr. Yancy completed an internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern, as well as fellowship programs in cardiology and advanced heart failure transplant.  

Hosted by the Office for Institutional Opportunity, this hybrid event will be held on South Campus in D1.600 at noon, followed by a light lunch reception at 1 p.m. The celebration will also be livestreamed on UTSW’s YouTube channel for those unable to attend in person. 

The celebration will include remarks from UT Southwestern President Daniel K. Podolsky, M.D., and an award ceremony honoring the student recipients of the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarships for Community Service. 

Campus shuttle services will be increased at the time of this event, and the gates at Staff Garage 2 and the visitor lot on South Campus will also be open.
