"Biobank-Based Genomic Discovery for Rare Kidney Diseases"

Speaker:

Matthew Sampson, M.D., M.S.
Associate Professor of Pediatrics
Division of Nephrology
Warren E. Grupe Chair of Pediatric Nephrology, Boston Children's Hospital
Harvard Medical School

About Matthew Sampson:

Dr. Sampson holds a bachelor's degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He received his medical degree from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, and completed pediatrics residency training at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he remained to receive fellowship training.

Dr. Sampson's research focuses on understanding the genetic factors that lead to nephrotic syndrome, especially in children. His team studies large sets of genetic and biological data to identify key variants linked to the disease and to understand how those variants affect kidney function and patient outcomes. They use advanced statistical and population genetics methods and create new computational tools when needed. The Sampson Lab also makes its data and resources publicly available to support the broader research community and works to help pediatric nephrologists around the world better understand and use genomic information in clinical care.
