About Dr. Alexander Kabanov, Ph.D.:

Alexander “Sasha” Kabanov is the Mescal Swaim Ferguson Distinguished Professor at the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. His work focuses on nanomedicine and drug delivery, with research spanning polymeric therapeutics, gene and RNA delivery, and translational approaches to cancer.

Kabanov’s research centers on nanomedicine and polymeric drug delivery systems for the treatment of cancer and neurological diseases. He has developed novel platforms such as block copolymer micelles, nanogels, macrophage carriers, and exosome-based delivery systems, many of which have progressed toward clinical application. His work includes gene and RNA delivery, vaccine development, and technologies that enhance drug transport across biological barriers.

He directs the Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery and co-directs the Carolina Institute for Nanomedicine at Carolina. He also leads an NIH-funded T32 training program in cancer nanotechnology and previously founded and directed NIH-supported research centers at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
