About this Event
Title: Dissecting bacterial physiology with electrochemistry and genetics
Speaker: Scott Saunders, PhD Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate in Biology & Biological Engineering, Caltech
Candidate Bio: Dr. Scott Saunders completed his BS in Ecology and Biology at The University of Georgia before earning his PhD at Caltech with the mentorship of Dr. Diane Newman. His doctoral research aimed to understand how Pseudomonas aeruginosa overcomes oxygen limitation with endogenous molecules called phenazines. He is currently completing postdoctoral physical biology research in the lab of Dr. Rob Phillips at Caltech. Saunders' work seeks to understand how phenazines support electron transfer in Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms, and how these cells live in the environment and in pathogenic contexts.
Hosted by: Kimberly Reynolds, PhD
*The UTSW Distinguished Fellow role is a mentored position open to individuals with the ambition of attaining independence straight out of a Ph.D. program.
